Safety tips for go-karting petrol
Want to set the fastest lap? Whether it's your first time on the track or you're a seasoned regular, mastering these basics is key to being fast and safe.
- Hands: Keep your hands in the 'quarter to three' position and avoid letting go of the wheel.
- Braking: Our kart brakes act on the rear wheels only. Brake hard in a straight line before you enter the turn. Braking while turning can cause the rear wheels to lock, resulting in a spin. Never slam the brakes.
- The Racing Line: The fastest path is "out-in-out". Stay on the outside as you approach a turn, cut in to hit the inside “apex” and let the kart drift back to the outside on exit. This wide path helps you maintain momentum.
- Be Smooth: Sliding and jerking the steering wheel may look fast, but it's actually slow. Accelerate and brake smoothly to maintain grip and speed throughout the entire track.
- Tyre Grip: Your tyres need a few laps to warm up. Your kart will have more grip after a lap or two, so build your speed gradually.
- Overtaking: Time your passes carefully and only pass when it’s safe. If a faster driver is behind you, stick to your normal racing line; this makes you predictable and allows them to pass safely.
- Listen: Always pay attention to the safety briefing and follow the rules and flag signals from our track staff.
